Richard
Langhorn died tragically at the age of
29 from a routine back operation in November 1994. During the previous
years, he organised
several rugby trips with his fellow players at Harlequins to
Neuchâtel to visit friends,
participating an wining our 7-a-side on two occasions. As well as his
love for rugby and
travel, he extended his friendship to everyone he met.
If Richard was not previously known in the Swiss rugby circuit, he was very familiar with the ski slopes of Switzerland, France and Austria and in the city of London which kept him in touch with the world's financial markets. His rugby career was founded at Harlequins FC where he played for England A, London and Kent in Canada, British Columbia, Zimbabwe and Australia.In his Memory, a trust was founded in England by Peter Winterbottom, with support from players, personal and professional friends. The aim of the Richard Langhorn Trust is to promote sporting opportunities for disabled and underprivileged children in the sports he loved, rugby, skiing, basketball and sailing. Since our 1995 tournament, we introduced the Richard Langhorn Memorial Cup, which is presented yearly to the bast player of the tournament by Richard's father, Stephen. In Honour of Richard's association with us, we have decided to name to our tournament "The Richard Langhorn Neuchâtel 7's" and aim to contribute and assist in the Richard Langhorn Trust. |
